Hoping someone can give me advice on my situation. I have never had Directv service. I recently acquired two Directv Tivo receivers. I would reeallly like to use them instead of the non-tivo Directv DVRs. So, I called Directv and they had someone come out who said he could not hook up my older units.

My question is, can I have them come out again, install their 2 non-tivo DVRs, then take the card out of them and plug it into my used directv tivo units and use those instead??

Thanks

That is possible except that you will have to call DirecTV and have them "remarry" the cards to the DirecTiVos. Also there is a rumor about them not allowing this after 2/28, thread here (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=337853).

You need to find out why they won't activate those units. Is it because the previous owner has an outstanding debt with DirecTV? Or because of the older access card? If the latter, then maybe buying new access cards will work.

They seem to very nazi-fied with "new access cards".

If you have used(owned) equipment, you can activate it.

If you "trick" a CSR to marry-up an old card, you'll have the unit as "Leased".
Even if you try later to get it moved to Owned, they'll say "We can't do that because you used an old access card".

I know (like me) want to save the $20. But the best bet is to get a new access card, and make sure its OWNED when you activate the new card.

..
PS
New access cards have a 9 day window FROM THE DAY YOU ORDER IT, not the day you receive it.
Make SURE you activate it as soon as you get it.
Even if the usps takes 8 days to deliver it, and you wait 2 days (to make it 10, and go over the 9), they'll hard-ball you into another card.

DirecTV has had a policy in place for quite some time whereby they will not activate used receivers on a new account. However, once, you've established the account you can activate all the used receivers your heart desires with no problem. DTV just wants to make sure everything works the first time when installing your new system since they have no idea what condition it's in. This helps reduce service calls for new accounts and also ensures the customer will be happy with their new DTV setup.

I have an older Directv Receiver, and had the old access card. Hooked it all up, phoned Directv to get the receiver added to my account, but could not because the Card had expired?

Anyways, not a problem. Directv sent out a New Card for free. Just remember to activate it within 10 Days as sloan above has said.

PS: My new card arrived next day by Fedex Express ..lol.
