My TIVO is getting on for 6 years old now and is still configured as the day it was collected from the store with the original drive(s). I have never had the cover off so am unsure if there is one drive or two.
I use it with Blueyonder cable TV (Pace box) as the source.
I have scoured the UK part of this forum looking for a similar situation and solution but have been unable to find anything.
For the last few Months there has occasionally been issues where the picture would become blocky or it would only make a partial recording with no real explanation as to why. (As an occasional reader of these forums I always accepted that the HD life was not infinite and that I would have to replace it at some point). I put these earlier problems down to a failing drive but as mentioned they were very few and far between and up until now the machine always returned to normal operation.
Earlier this week all sound was lost the picture was as good as it had always been simply no sound. I checked the scart leads had a fiddle about and this seems to have sorted the problem. Last night I switched everything on and the tivo went into its power up mode. After the usual short delay it switched to the last channel programmed on the pace box and displayed every thing as normal.
As soon as I operate any button on the remote control the tivo loses its video and audio signal. I have followed the advice laid down on the trouble shooting screen like changing the channels but it does not solve the problem. By unplugging the scart in and replacing ( I know I am nor supposed to do this) it does correct the problem and again display live TV. All is then well until the next time I try and use the remote when live tv crashes again.
It plays recording from the now showing screen fine it just seems it has a problem with the live TV feed.
I tried to run guided setup again but it simply complains that it is not receiving any signal from the scart sockets.
Does this sound like it could be a hard drive problem?
I don't want really to go down the road of sourcing another hard drive when this problem could be other hardware related. The quality of the live TV picture and the playback of stored recordings could suggest the HD has some life in it yet.
Has anyone else come across a similar problem. If the machine is unrepairable then it will be a very sad day in my household.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and fingers crossed there is an easy solution (like replacing the hard drive  )
