I've done a search on this but I haven't been able to find an answer.

I need to re-activate a spare series 2 DTiVo for a month or so to replace one on my account that is temporarilly down for repair. The spare has it's own card and it is an up to date version of the card. The spare was previously active on my account briefly. Both units are non-RID units. Can I de-activate the broken one and re-activate the spare? I'd like to do this on line and avoid the hassle of calling a CSR to accomplish this. In a month or so I will want to reverse the process and de-activate the spare and re-activate the original unit after it is repaired. I do not want to inadvertently extend my contract for another two years as a result of this switch. Can this be accomplished on line? If not, can it be done with a CSR without negative consequences?

DirecTV took down the online activation site several months ago, so you'll have to call. I don't think you'll get any hassles from the CSR.

Does anyone know if reactivating a receiver previously active (briefly) on the account results in a new 2 year commitment?

If they are both non-rid, just put the subbed card in the other receiver and call using the phone listed on the account. At the voice prompt say "extention seven twenty two". The system will remarry the card to the other receiver.
