I've noticed some people in my neighborhood have had their 3 lnb dish switched to the 5 lnb....I'm wondering, is there any reason to do this now. HD locals aren't available in our area yet.....am i missing something...is the 5 lnb being used to pick up more channels right now...if so i want to get mine swapped....if not, i guess i'll wait till they begin launching more hd channels. Or is there a good reason i should go ahead and have it swapped?

What neighborhood are you in? Maybe they are new customers and DirecTV is installing the 5LNB or your neighbors are thinking ahead.

Actually they were existing customers that had the 3 lnb dishes already installed for a year or more...then all of the sudden one day i notice some of them now have the 5 lnb's.

When I was activating my HR10, the CSR said I'd need a 5lnb dish, and I could have it installed for the low, low price of $99.
Knowing better, thanx in part to these forums, I said no,
and bought my own 3lnb after she refused to lower the price.
I previously had a round dish.

I would say there is no reason to upgrade yet. I would wait until there are channels you want to get in Mpeg-4. At that time DirecTV should give you the dish with whichever receiver you get from them.

It could be your neighbors have recently upgraded to HD service. If so they would have gotten the HR20 which comes with the 5 lnb dish.

It is Directv thinking in advance.
The 3LNB is being phased out for the 5LNB, so why not just install the newer one now, instead of waiting down the line?
