If I set the pillarboxing to black, and I use 1080i or 720p fixed with the S3 set to "panel", will the screen display the black pillarboxes on a plasma? One plasma that I am considering only gives gray sidebars (pioneer 5070), unless you go into the service menu. But I was thinking that the S3 sending a fixed signal would send the black sidebars along as well.

I'm asking in reference to 4:3 stuff, obviously the 16:9 stuff is a non-issue.

Thanks

yes, the Tivo colors will override the Tv's settings.

The S3 pillars are the pillars added by the S3 and are seperate than the pillars added by the TV. I have my S3 pillars set to be gray. I also use "Native" output and "4:3 Smart Screen" TV aspect ratio settings. I never see any gray pillars when I am watching content. I will sometimes see a gray square where the content will be during brief program/content switches (i.e. right after I select something different to watch). The only pillars I ever see are the TV's black pillars. This is the way it should be if you are letting you TV do all of the scaling and your TV does the scaling correctly. If your TV doesn't have a great scalar, then you might have to use other settings which come with tradeoffs.
