I had a S3 that I upgraded the hard drive to 750gb. It has been working perfectly over the past few months and then and it stopped working. The hard drive seems in tact as all the shows were preserved. I think it was a problem with the HDMI out. Best Buy gave me a brand new S3. Here are my questions:

1) Can I take out the original hard drive and put in the 750gb? Will I have to do anything special (e.g., redo what I had to do the 1st time or Clear and Delete everything)?

2) Do I have to have Charter come out and reprogram the cablecards?

Thanks!

I think your recordings will disappear, due to the TSN change, so a Clear and Delete might be the best idea. So you'll have a fresh start.

As for your CableCARDs. You might be able to take care of it yourself if you find the right person to call. You might just be able to deal with a Charter CSR.

They'll need the new Host ID's and data numbers (they may not need the data numbers). Make note of the serial number of which CableCARD goes into which slot.

You'll most likely get an error (I think it is "Error 51"). It basically means the hard drive has a different key (the TSN) than the Tivo expects, and you won't be able to watch any recorded shows on the new S3. You'll have to do a "Clear & Delete Everything" to be able to use the old 750GB drive in the new S3.
