Does anyone have a Series 2 or Series 2 DT controlling the Motorola 6412 HD cable box ?

I have two Series 2 Tivos and recently got an HDTV. As Series 3 doesn't have MRV I didn't jump in, so I have Comcast's Moto 6412 HD DVR. (Hate the thing, it is lucky it hasn't been launched out the living room window  )

Now with the delays on MRV for S3 and was thinking of getting another S2 DT and using it for everything but HD. But I need it to control the 6412 for the SD digital channels.

Does anyone have this setup ?

Any issues with Tivo controlling a Dual tuner cable box (that might be recording an HD channel itself!) ?

Any experiences appreciated.

I wouldn't recommend it. 1. Big video/audio quality loss from reencoding. 2. Can't utilize HD box to view your HD shows while Tivo is recording as it would mess up the recording.

I would just use the Motorola for all digital channels. It's best picture/audio that way, & IMO the interface isn't that bad once you learn the quirks. There are even things about it I like better than Tivo.

I wouldn't recommend getting a new S2DT either. In a few months the Comcast/Tivo software is rumored to be coming out, which should be able to run on your 6412. The software as demoed at CES looks pretty slick; hopefully that will address any frustrations you have with the unit.

If you really want S2DT despite my recommendation, I'd get another non-DVR cable STB to use as its slave so the HD box is free for HD stuff always. Most of primetime major networks is HD these days; I use my 6412 more than my Tivo for past couple years .
