OK.....More details please about the "Ethernet Switched Digital Video backbone". What will that mean to me as an Insight cable TV and broadband subscriber?

Read the SDV (Switched Digital Video) threads for a full explanation. It basically means the S3 may not be a good investment in Louisville, KY.

Just found this thread. Can someone just summarize what the impact of SDV is for Louisville, and why this should affect my decision whether to purchase an S3 TiVo?

Also, can someone from lousville tell me... is Insight a Comcast provider? Someone said Cox, but I'm not sure which it is...

Insight Communications was the 9th largest cable company in the U.S. prior to a recent split of their customer base, half went to Comcast, and now the remaining company is the 11th largest cable company:

Insight customers that are in Illinois and Indiana, except for the Indiana customers in Evansville, will be switching to Comcast before the end of this year.

Recent rumors in the industry are that Insight will sell off their Kentucky, Ohio, and Evansville, IN holdings (Time Warner being the most likely buyer):

My understanding is that Time Warner uses SDV, and thus it makes sense that Insight would be making this switch (if they are interested in TW as a buyer.)

Just moved to Louisville and was considering an S3 as well due to the poor quality of the standard (non-cable box signal). Does anyone know how many channels I will be missing because of the SDV system with Insight? From what I have read in other posts, even TW is limiting the deployment to rarely used channels. As long as I can get the basic/classic cable channels I would be happy.

Wondering this myself... There have been some decent S3 deals lately.
