I have a broken TiVo (HD) that was gifted to my dad a couple of years back that he just gave back to me. I'd like to set it up & just use it for storage, if possible. My wife records a lot of old movies & it would be great to transfer ones she wants to keep to the storage TiVo and save the space on one of our two main TiVos.
Is this possible? Here's what I think...
I'd have to replace the HD - no big deal
I'd have to activate the TiVo, at least for a short time, to add it to my transfer-capable list
My question: if I do this, cancel the service on the new/old TiVo, keep it on the network, but tell it to use the phone line to connect for updates (so it basically won't connect) - can I keep it just to transfer shows to? I don't need to recording capabilities & am not trying to keep that functionality - just want to keep it enabled to transfer shows to/from.
