Non-HD Series 3?

Has anybody heard plans about an update to the Series 2 to record digital broadcasts? I'm hearing people ask for the ability to do this, but the Series 3 is outside of their budgets. I'm personally thinking something more along the lines of a DirecTiVo. Not HD, not THX, but a Series 2D that can record the current OTA digital broadcasts and won't be obsolete in 2009.

Since more and more digital ATSC broadcasts are 720p or 1080i HiDef, it probably would not make sense to introduce an ATSC-ready Tivo that only recorded at standard 480i definition. Anyway, I haven't heard of any such plans.

A anon HD series 3, not this decade likely. HD is only a part of what constitutes the Series 3. Digital tuners and cablecard is most of that model.

Support for standalone ATSC tuners and/or a built in ATSC tuner for the Series 2 is more likely. But you won't likey see one before 2008.
