I think I might be missing something, but I can not plug my cable into the Tivo box because there is no place to do it. Is that normal?

Unless you have a Series 2 DT (Dual Tuner) you need to purchase a USB to Ethernet adapter see www.tivo.com/adapters for a list of compatible ones. Personally I'd recommend the Netgear FA120 or D-Link model as the Linksys is too flimsy for my likeing.

A plain old S2 (non-DT) has a network port as well. Series 1 do not.

Incorrect.

Only DT and S3 model TiVos have built in ethernet.

Well, I'll be damned... I guess I was thinking about USB-ethernet adapter.
