My Cable provider (Time Warner Austin) uses Scientific Atlanta.

Apparently there are a couple of known issues at TiVo with Scientific Atlanta cards, namely, the SA cards are a little thicker than Motorola and have a hard time being seated properly in TiVo's slots, and secondly they cause the TiVo S3 to reset when trying to do a firmware upgrade or after TiVo restarts after successfully completing Guided Setup.

I was wondering if weird problems are only related to Scientific Atlanta cards or if it is across brands.

I haven't had any issues with improper fit with my S.A. cards, and I've had many. My problem has centered around card authorization issues, but I think those are mostly headend issues.

On the whole though, from reading this forum, I'd say that people have had better luck with the Motorola cards.

I have SA cards. For some reason I don't get Hallmark channel and there are a couple of stations with no sound, one is a religious station so I thank God for that, the other is what appears to be horse racing which I have no interest.

We have SA cards, and they fit just fine and have been perfect.

I have SA cards.

At first I had clusters of channels that didn't work. I placed a service call the day after they were installed to address it and within hours everything was working as it should. I ended up canceling the service call.

They claim to have not made any changes, but all I know is that it wasn't working the night of the install and after scheduling the truck roll my problem went away and has been wroking perfect since.

I'm scared to make programming changes... everthing is working perfect.

Time Warner Columbus, Scientific Atlanta cards. Can be flakey at times with a channel or two dropping out. I usually have to reboot the box for them to come back.

Time Warner here in Houston, although they are swapping territories with Comcast. So Houston will be Comcast later this year (already is actually, just the trucks and marketing haven't caught up yet).

Anyway, they provided Motorola cards and mine are working fine. No problems.

I have SA cards. They fit in the box fine [and believe me i had plenty]. As it was hell getting them to work. But last guy brought 2 brand new SA cards, and has worked flawlessly since then [and he had it working within 5 minutes].
