Adding 2nd drive to dual tuner model

I thinking of buying a TCD649080 dual tuner model Tivo and would like to add a second 300 gig hard drive. How difficult will that be? Can I simply format it to Linux, set it to slave and connect it or must I install additional software before it is added? Also, must I modify the original drive if I add a second drive?

That website is by far the best IMO. It has very easy to understand instructions (some basic PC knowledge will be required) I have never so much as entered a Linux command and those instructions made it quite easy to swap the drive in my DT.


When you say "add a second 300GB hdd", do you mean to the factory 80GB drive?

I would suggest doing a single drive swap and go with the 300GB HDD on its own. The rate of failure with a dual-drive setup increases as does the complicated task at hand when one of the drives fail. Had you been doing a dual 300GB drive setup, I would say thats worth it, but IMO adding 300 to 80 just is not worth the hassle.
