I had replaced the drive in my R10 with a 400gb drive. I now want to sell the R10 but I want to keep the 400gb drive. Can I Instant Cake a 250gb drive and put it in the R10? I tried this and it is stuck on "POWERING UP" screen. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't know about Instant Cake but you can certainly do it using either the original small drive image or a fresh image downloaded from somebody here on the forum.

Without keeping the recordings You should be able to use MFSTools and "shrink" the 400G drive back to the original size.

That's what Instant Cake is for. Did you follow the IC instructions? Using IC is a bit different than most "upgrades." Is the hard drive jumpered correctly? That's an easy thing to change and then forget to change back.
