I've concluded that the component video output is failing on my HD Tivo. Several weeks ago the video output became unviewable, almost like looking at a scrambled cable channel. "Clear and Delete Everything" seemed to solve the problem, but only for a few days. After some testing, I learned that I can still get (480i only) S-Video and composite video output from the Tivo. Unfortunately, I can't test and don't have the option to use HDMI.

Does anyone have experience with this kind of failure - has anyone heard of this before?

Also, is it possible to replace the component video output in the box, similar to replacing an HDMI card? I am fearful that it's tied to the motherboard. Any idea who might be selling replacement parts if possible? I have a note out to weaknees
to see if they might.

This the first report I've seen of a component output problem.

Are you sure it isn't a problem with the TV?

Just a thought here: I had a similar problem with my DVD player's component output. Turns out the cables that I was using were a little loose. Seating them properly solved the problem.

You might have tried this but I thought I should mention it.

Good thoughts both. I know that it's not the cables, as I've plugged and unplugged in every possible configuration to test this out.

I route my video through a Yamaha receiver. The receiver-to-TV component monitor out is working just fine, as is the DVD-to-receiver input. It's worth a shot - I will try switching the Tivo to the receiver component inputs that the DVD player is currently using, and will post back if that's the issue.

Incredible! Problem solved (or at least understood) - thanks, roberb. It seems that the component inputs on the Yamaha receiver are having a problem. It's not the Tivo at all. I switched over to the "A" inputs (currently used by the DVD) and no issue.

The value of having someone else think about a problem... Thanks again. Now I have to think about what to do with the receiver!

If you had mentioned the AV receiver in your original thread I would have included that in my reply.:)
