Hello, I am upgrading the hard drive of a series 2 Tivo for a friend of mine tonight. I am upgrading from a 40gig drive to a 160gig drive.

I received this error when the backup/restore was at 82.27% (I am not transferring any shows, and I did a Clear and Delete before. Also it has the latest updates on the drive)

**hda is the original TiVo drive**
--------------------------------------------
hda : dma_intr : status =0x51 {DriveReady SeekComplete Error}

hda : dma_intr : error 0x40 {UncorrectableError}, LBAsect=45830084, high=2, low=12275652, sector=45830056

end_request: I/O error, dev 03:00 (hda), sector 45830056
-----------------------------------------------

This error appears about seven or eight times in a row with the numbers slightly changing and then the upgrade continues. When it is finished it says it is complete and Success with the new drive total drive hours.

Obviously the errors are on the original tivo drive and not the new drive, but while I still have the two drives hooked up to the computer I want to know if the new drive will work or will the errors carry over and just cause problems now (or down the road). I tried running the upgrade again but the same error happened at the exact same point in the upgrade.

Sorry for the long post, I am just hoping someone will notice something in it that can help me with this.

THANKS!

Looks like you have bad sectors on your old TiVo drive.

Write down sector # where errors are reported and once you are done w/ restore,
do pdisk -l /dev/hdc and take a look at where the error are occuring.

TiVo software has ability to heal some errors so try to run the new drive on TiVo.

How will I know when I put the new drive in the TiVo? Is there anything I should be looking for because the old drive seemed to be working fine earlier today in the TiVo.

If it works you are good to go.
TiVo software checks for filesystem consistency during startup.

What boot cd are you using?
