Hi all,
I just flipped on my 51' Toshiba and the picture started blinking every 1-2 seconds. When I switch to another input it is fine. I tried rebooting the HR10-250 and nothing. I also tried re-seating the HDMI cable and still it flashes on and off like crazy.
I have it running with component but the picture quality suffers in my opinion. Is it my TV or does the HR10 have a HDMI issue? Could it be the cable?
Thanks for any suggestions
AJC

Some older HR10s did have an HDMI issue. The particular problem you're having is a failure of the security "handshake". Sometimes you have to turn devices on in a particular order for the handshake to work. I don't know if your problem is due to a failure in the HR10.

Thanks Steve
I tried rebooting the HR10-250 while the TV was off and it still had the handshaking issue...
Do you know what order I should turn things on in? I am using a monoprice cable which has done good by me but do you think it might be the cable?
Thanks!!

It is unlikely to be the cable, especially if it worked before. Try turning the TV on and then restarting the TiVo. You should not have to do this in normal circumstances, but HDMI can be a tricky thing, especially with "older" devices.

When Steve talks about the older HR10-250s having a problem with the HDMI card, he is talking about those made prior to December 2005. After December 2005, the card was replaced with a newer version to fix the problems. If you unit was manufactured before December 2005, there will be a date on the serial number plate on the back. Units manufactured after December 2005 may or may not have a date on the plate.

I believe mine was made after the date noted, got it new about 15 months ago, and the HDMI output was not functional from the get go. Purchasing circumstances made it a hassle to return and I was very pleased with the component output so I did not pursue a remedy.

My serial number is on a label surrounding the power cable plug.
I guess mine is pretty old then.....
Starting the TV 1st then rebooting the HR10 did not solve the problem. During the boot it was fine with the "Powering up" and "Almost there" messages but it started going bonkers from there...
Hmmm.. what to do?

You can just get it repaired:

I got my HR10 in October 2005 and the HDMI port works fine.
