With the audio dropouts on my OTA Fox HD source, some of the thrill of watching the first 2007 sessions of 24 will be taken away. Direct TV says they are upgrading those of us with 6.3a, but not to expect the update until January 15.
The audio dropout problem, plus Season Pass no longer being reliable, really makes one wonder whether the HR10-250 has seen its day. If only I could record OTA with my JVC DVHS deck. My wife missed two days of Days of Our Lives because of the Season Pass problem, so she is ready to go back to VHS--at least it was reliable.
Maybe some of us will watch 24 in SD just to be safe. What a bummer!!!!!

I thought Jan 12 was the end date for the 6.3b update? So hang in there, as my HR10 updated after a forced call today. I hope your 24 SP for your OTA Fox station works for you. I'll be using ch 88 for my 24 fix.

For the "must record" (e.g. "24") use a manual recording.

I have tickets for the Bears game in Chicago. Won't be home for 24, and will really be upset if the recording doesn't happen. This one is a hard one to manually record because of the football games messing with the schedules.

Actually it should be easy to set a manual recording. Pick a start time and then a suspected end time to cover the show. If it has to be 4 hours, so be it.:)

The game on Fox is a 1:00 game (noon Central) so it's not likely that it will impact the prime time schedule.

I love 24 too much to risk missing it. I am staying home for the event. I don't have the faith that my HR10 will record it.

The fox game is at 1 so there's no danger of 24 being pushed back.

Luckily I saw these threads and babysat my HR-10 tonight!! Both Rome and 24 SP's stopped recording in the middle of the shows!!!!! I was able to manually record the remainder of the shows via dual buffers....this is feckin' crazy!!!! WTF is D*TV doing to our boxes??????   I also lost the Rangers/Bruins hockey game yesterday and had to unplug/replug my box to reboot it last night!!! All since I got 6.3b this week!!! If only I had been smart enough to unplug the phone line for crissakes!!!!
Just to play it safe, it's recorded on both the HR10 and on my computer.

So I didn't realize that this was an issue. And then I go to watch 24 and I have 1 hr 35 recorded. Talk about something that gets your blood boiling!!! I can't see straight!

Actually, it was at 12:00 noon for him, since he's a Chicago ara resident (CST).

Don't worry, you didn't miss much. Just a bunch of killing, blood, violence, action--nothing much. :D

I was worried as well, we usually watch about 1/2 into it so we can zip through the commericals. Wife likes Desperate Housewives and that started at 8:00 (24 at 7:00 MST) so there was some concern of short recordings/reboot.
I have been making a daily call to ensure the guide data gets indexed and so far have not seen any issue. Knock on some really hard wood.
Both 24 and DH were recorded fine. Hopefully tonights 24 will be as good.

I wasn't worried at all. I had backup recordings set on the R-10, a stand alone series 2, and we had the TV antenna input tuned to the proper channel in case we needed to make a quick switchover. I instisted on watching it live, recordings were for my son.
Only 1 audio dropout in 2 hours, but the recording on the HR10 went fine other than that. I have yet to get 6.3b, so I hope our luck holds tonight.
It seems that the dropouts are less frequent the longer it stays on one channel, so I'm keeping one tuner on fox for 2 days.
My season pass worked fine but TiVo rebooted half-way through 24 and I lost about 10 minutes waiting for it to power back up.
Software should get MORE stable with subsequent releases, not LESS. I have 6.3b and it sucks. I'm really growing tired of these spontaneous reboots.
When I first purchased my HD TiVo, it was as reliable and stable as my SD TiVo units. Now, there's a 50/50 chance that something will be screwed up with a program I want to watch.
I called DirecTV irritated last evening and told them about the reboot during 24. The CSR was nice, said it was a known issue escalated to TiVo and eventually gave me a $50 credit for my grief.
I wish it was EASY to go back 2 software versions without seriously hacking the unit.

The first two hours were fantastic, and Monday night will be as well. Had four audio dropouts of about 15 seconds each. Luckily, not during dialog that was critical to the story line. Direct TV needs to get the 6.3b updates done!! I'm still on 6.3a. Phone calls don' t help.
Blogs say there will be nuclear attacks in 24 on Monday's two hours. Maybe it will make a few people think about how vulnerable we are in the US. A lot more important than our technical problems with the Tivos.

This is absolutely unbelievable. I have two units and one records fine with no problems. The other (older unit) on the first night the minute 24 started it started sputtering and locked up. Last night it didn't even bother to get that far, as soon as 24 started it just restarted itself. Once it restarted, it sputtered the audio and video throughout the show. I tried manually unplugging then replugging it back in with no change.
Absolutely unbelievable. Both units have 6.3b. I have no problems with any other shows or stations.
It will be interesting to see if it can tape AI tonight.

Sunday night about 3-5 minutes into 24 my 6.3b Tivo booted!! Monday night no boots but way too many short audio dropouts. I also recorded Trump on Sunday night and the audio glitches were also bad. None of my recordings are OTA.

Last night we started to watch about 10 min late, so it took a little bit to catch up. Had 1 audio drop out while we were behind, but couldn't do much about that. After we caught up, there were two drop outs fairly close together, so I switched to the TV's internal tuner. About 10 min later, a standard 10 second drop out?!? It took me another 15 min to realize we were still getting the audio from TIVO through the surround system. ::slaps self in forehead:: I would have thought the lip sync would have given that away, but it was almost unnoticable.

Talking with a DTV tech person last night -- who sounded like my grandmother -- and said the 6.3 upgrade would fix the problem in recording in Dolby Digital but the other problems -- dropouts, restarts, freezes, partial recordings etc. -- is still being psyched out by TIVO and they hope to have a fix at a later date. When I queried her abou that she diverted the conversation and said she'd work on me getting the update patch. She suggested a manual restart, despite the fact that it's been restarting on its own about four times a day.

No audio drop outs and no reboots with v3.1.5f on Sunday night or Monday night with 24. Season pass worked normally.

6.3 has been perfect for me. I used to have some issues in 3.15f. The upgrade to 6.3a made things much worse. I then did a clear and delete all and 6.3a was perfect except for the audio dropouts. 6.3b has fixed the audio dropouts and I have not missed a recording, (Including all 4 hours of 24, Rome, the L word etc.) or had a reboot.
After my experience I think the conversion process is suspect. I would be curious if anyone has had 6.3 issues after doing a C&DE , thus starting with a clean 6.3 database.

Good point on the C&DE, I haven't done that as I have about 8 episodes of Band of Brothers I am still trying to work through, but might need to try that.
