I have been looking at the 5 lnb dish and dtv hd to replace a broke hd tivo setup.

I have setup every one of my dishes myself....

Just how hard is this thing to peak ? What type of meter do you have to buy ? Can you still do it without the meter by using the receiver (in a pinch) ? These meters costs more than the dish.... can a normal Joe who has done the 3 lnb's be able to do it without a major issue (other than buying the meter) or is it just that hard....

Also has the over the air software been turned on on the dtv hd dvr ?

Thanks

I've set up a couple of these and found them to be pretty simple -- much simplier than they would have you believe. You might want to check out this thread over in DBS Talk:

You don't HAVE to buy a meter, but it sure makes it easier. If you've got plenty of time and patience though, you can save the $$$. If you've set up dishes before, you can do it -- just read the instructions closely.

And yes, the over-the-air tuners in the HR20 were enabled about a month ago.

I have one of those nanny-cam wireless cameras that comes in useful for dish pointing (and inspecting inside pipes, since I never had a nanny). I point the camera at the TV with the receiver on the signal strength screen (mostly OTA for me). I use it with my portable DVD player, which is much easier to take up on the roof than a 53" TV.
