from http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=784798 :
"I have DirecTV using an HR10-250 HiRes TiVo. I receive my HD locals with an over the air antenna and the TiVo is connected using component video cables. Lately I have been seeing programs pop up with the following message in the program info:

"The copywrite holders of this program allow viewing in standard definition on component outputs."

The program is noticably worse quality than other programs without this flag. The programs I have seen it on so far are Ellen (local NBC), The Class, Two and a Half Men (Both CBS). I was wondering if others are seeing this or if it is just happening in St. Louis?

I do not have HDMI inputs from my TV so my connection of choice is component video. Also another fact that may be relevant here is that my TiVo was recently upgraded to v6.3b software. I would hate to have to buy a TV with HDMI just because "Da Man" will not let me watch a HD analog version of my programs."

So has anyone else seen this? I've got 6.3a and plan to record one of the shows he's seeing it on next week so I can confirm or deny it's 6.3b related.

OTA should not have this protection flag set. Call your local and ask why they are doing it? +-

Thanks for the thread link, but it doesn't sound like anything was really figured out.

AFAIK tivos do not have the ability to receive/recognize a broadcast flag that is sent by the broadcaster. This is something that tivo would have to do voluntarily by themselves, and add some kind of flag into the guide data.

I would be interested in breaking this just for the sake of breaking it, but I have yet to ever run into this.
