NESN on HD?

Anyone in the New England area know if DirecTV has Nesn HD at all?

I just got HD last friday and I can't find it anywhere

Sure is, been on since early summer. It's a full time channel as well.
It's available in MPEG4 so you'll need the 5LNB dish and either an H20 or HR20 receiver to get it.

It's available I believe only in the Boston market right now.

yep. I can't remember the exact channel but it's one up from the SD NESN. As others have said, you MUST have either a H20 or HR20 and the 5LNB dish. You also have to be in the Boston market. I believe Providence and Hartford don't have it available in HD.

I think I have it

I do have the HR20, 5 LNB and in the boston market

I think it just replaced the regular SD channel

Now that you mention it, I believe you're right. It shows up in the guide as the same channel as SD, but the channel label is HD instead of NESN. I remember thinking how odd that was.

On a related note, a coworker has NESN as an account and went to their open house for the new studios. He proudly displays on his desk the picture of Hazel hugging him.

I dont get what the point is of making it a Boston market only channel. NESN HD - on cable at least - is already available in the Boston market. Where's the value added there?

Not sure what you are confused about, I don't have cable, I have DirecTV. So Nesn HD on cable does me no good

The satellites at 99 and 103 only deliver spotbeam signals, so NESN HD is part of the Boston local package only. There is no easy way of DirecTV delivering it to areas outside Boston, because of the way all the authorizations work. When DirecTV 10 and 11 launch later this year and start transmitting national HD channels, the rumor is that NESN HD will be one of those. But you will need the 5-lnb dish and an H20 or HR20 to receive them, no TiVo!!!

What a crock; it's NEW ENGLAND Sports Network, not Boston Sports Network. Two of the loves of my life: the Red Sox, and HDTV. Not available together in Maine (at least where I am in Maine).

Depending upon how far north in Maine you are, the Boston spotbeam may cover you. If so, you could always "move" to a service address is Boston until NESN-HD is available where you are. I know of other folks in NE that have done so.

Not that I'd condone such a thing, of course ;)
