View Full Version : Channel Banner/Info screen displays too long

I tried to search for an answer to this but I was finding far too many irrelevant search results.
When I play a recorded program on both of my TiVos (series 2) the info display (channel banner as it's called) displays for 8 seconds right over the top of what I'm trying to watch. I often times end up having to press the info button to remove it.
I do have "Clear channel banner quickly" selected in my settings but it appears that this setting only applies to it when changing channels. What about when viewing recorded programs? Is there any way to reduce the time it displays or have it not display at all?
Thanks for your help.
There is a way to make it smaller at least, but I'm not sure I remember it-- maybe pressing the right arrow while the banner is displayed cycles through the different banner styles?

I don't remember any global setting, but if you press the 'clear' button or the 'left' button on your remote it will clear the info banner.
(But if you get the timing wrong with 'left' and press after the banner went away you end up back in the Now Playing List, so I tend to stick with 'clear')

Thanks for the replies.
I was hoping that the 'clear' would disable the banner once you press it but it comes back every time you play another show. Pressing the 'info' button will do the same thing as clear and left while the banner is on screen.
I experimented with it and just now realized that the info banner only shows up if I go to the program in the menu and press the 'play' button. If I select the program and then select play from the menu the info banner doesn't display at all. I suppose pressing 'select', 'select' is easier than pressing 'play','clear'... I'll just have to try to break the habit of pressing play.
I did select the smaller size display and it's much easier to deal with than the full display.

I just wish that selecting the smaller size were "stickier." I'm not sure what I'm doing, but it keeps on switching back to the full size. What are some of the actions that cause the banner setting to switch back to full size?

http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=4332852&&#post4332852That's definitely the type of thing I'm looking for. Thanks! My experience is that pressing the Info button twice, once to open the banner and once to close it, leaves the default banner size unchanged at small, but that pressing the Info button once, and letting it time-out, resets the default size to large. Despite judicious use of the Info button, I'm still getting large, long-lasting banners. Maybe I should just train my thumb to find the Clear button....

I have the exact same problem. I love TiVo but it really irritates me that when I press play from the program in the menu the banner is displayed for so long. I know what show I've selected and I just want to watch it. I keep having to press info to clear it. I guess I'll try select-select as described by RichO. Man, it seems like TiVo should change this behavior though. Why is it different to "select" play rather than press play?
AFAIC the info baner should NEVER appear automatically when playing recorded programs. After all I just saw the same info before I pressed play. Its stupid, plain and simple.

Actually, that's probably exactly what they were thinking when implementing this "feature". I haven't seen the info when this happens. I can only see the program title when I press play, so I haven't seen the info yet. But I still don't want to see it.

Yeah, this is still an irritation to this day.
Doesn't TiVo think that if we want to see the detailed info on a show, we know the info button is there for it. This should definitely be an optional display but not so.

Is there anywhere we can post requests like this for TiVo?
