Hey All,

I'm new to Tivo but fairly technical. I live in NYC and have Time Warner Digital Cable. I just purchased a Series 2 DT and have been having issues with the basic cable input. After a lot of troubleshooting and a good 4 hours worth of holdtime with Tivo Support, I've determined that the issue has to do with the signal coming in on the cable from the wall. The cable box input to the Tivo works fine.

So here's a description of the problem and what I've done. When trying to view channels that are basic cable channels, I either get a different channel than what is supposed to be there (channel 3 should be TNT but is PAX) or no signal. The only channels that seem to work properly are my local channels. It seems as if there's some encoding on the wire that Tivo can't translate (at least by default). I tested this by plugging the coax directly into my TV and saw the same thing. I've changed my lineup to Primary Basic Extended/Digital Basic Extended and that didn't work. Tivo support is no help (their most recent suggestion is to take the box and "switch rooms").

After reading some posts, I'm thinking that I need a cable card. Is this correct or is anyone familiar with this issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated since my Tivo is about a day and a half away from being returned...

cable cards are only for S3 boxes.

Did you say that the cable is giving you problems even if you connect it directly to your TV? I'm a little confused on that.

Time Warner is known in at least some locations to not have normal analog cable. Pretty much everything has to come thru the cable box.

Channels that do show up off the "boxless" cable feed also aren't in the same place in the channel lineup as they are when getting them thru the box.

That's just the way TW does things, at least in some of their locations.

Because of that, some people have found they can't make full use of their Dual Tuner machine.
