My 80Hr Series 2 that I've loaned to my grandma is having a problem. She recently changed from digital cable to basic, so she no longer needs the cable box. I came over and removed the cable box and had the TiVo repeat the guided setup so I could adjust the source. When it comes to the part where it will make the second connection to TiVo to download the program data, it hangs on Preparing to connect. I'm using a wireless network, and that's not the problem, because the first connection works OK. While I was there I realized it was taking WAY longer than normal, so I unplugged it and started again. Decided to let it try all night, and I just got the call from her this morning that it's still sitting on "preparing...".
Anyone have any ideas? I think I'm going to try connecting via phone later this week and see if that makes a difference.

You might want to go through changing the Network settings again.

No dice. I changed network settings to phone, and it's still hanging on "Preparing...". Is there a way to perform a hard reset(please excuse my palm terminology, not sure what it's called in the tivo world)? I am stuck in this loop of guided setup and will never get out if it won't connect!
Everything I've done so far:
Tried on wireless, hung
tried on dial up, hung
unplugged and plugged in network adapter, no change
physically unplugged the power 3 times, going on 4 now, just to get out of the stuck state.

I'm on the line with tech support right now. He's gone though about 3 tech notes that "may apply to this situation", but no change yet. He's clearly following his script, and completely at a loss at the moment.
To be continued...

OK, went to level 2. I mentioned to the new tech in our initial conversation that the cogs in the background have stopped turning. He couldn't remember if that's normal or not. Just put me on hold to ask some people in the office.

Awesome. Basically the end advice is: Wait longer! I'm going to take the box back home so I can keep an eye on it.
