Okay, I'm sure this has been asked somewhere but I haven't found it or a good answer to it. I need a little advice here. I own a Series2 Tivo (TCD130040) with the lifetime membership (yes, I paid the $300 and it has/was/is worth it). It has been properly blessed and has been working since 11/2003 flawlessly with no problems. It updates over a Wi-Fi connection and hasn't had any problems there either. Until last week...

I now have the lovely gray screen of death to TiVo owners which says "Welcome. Powering up..." And that's it, nothing else, ever. If I unplug it the red and green lights are on solid constantly and never shut off, nor does the welcome screen. I unplug it for about a minute and plug it back in, same thing. I've tried it multiple times over the course of several days. I've left in on overnight, no change. I've left it off overnight, no change. It just doesn't want to work.

So, What can I do (keeping in mind this is a blessed lifetime TiVo Series 2 unit)?

I can send it in and get another unit for $79, but I'd rather just resurrect it for free. Any ideas? Also, is there a way to purchase a new Series2 Dual Tuner unit and transfer the HDD data/image to the newer unit and have it retain the lifetime membership, or does it follow the box ESN? If that can be done I'd love to do that!

Any help you can provide would be appreciated!

Hack on!

Most likely your hard drive is failing or has failed. Several places sell new drives with tivo software installed.
