View Full Version : Grey screen lockup. Please help!
Newbie here. Occasional lurker who has never had any major issues before. Great forum, as you already know!
My non-hacked, original disk HR10-250 froze on me this morning. It was working fine last night, but when i turned it on this morning, all I got was a grey screen. No response to the remote and no response to the buttons on the unit. My non-HD DTivo in the bedroom was working fine, and all the other components are ok, so I know the problem is with the unit.
I did a search but still am not sure I understand. Is this related to the 6.3 issue? Hard drive?
I didn't reboot it this morning. I had to get to work and didn't want to mess with it before asking the experts. I assume I should try that first? Any other advice/recommendations?
Thanks!

Mine did this sometime today, first in a long long time. Power Cycle it, if it happens again then worry about it, otherwise mark it up as a glitch.
You could have a H20 and have daily crash's :/

Try disconnecting HDMI at the Tivo (assuming it is connected) first before rebooting. If it comes up OK, then reconnect HDMI and restart again. This will pinpoint whether you have the temp-too-high/HDMI problem (of course you will have to make an alternative connection, such as component or S video at 480i, while HDMI is disconnected).

The grey screen happened to me the other night as well. I fell asleep on the couch and woke up to it. I had to pull the plug to restart it.
Today when I go to watch the tivo the screen was all black and there were again no responses from the remote or panel of the tivo. I again pulled the plug and rebooted
Is my tivo dying????
I rebooted last night, and things seem to be working again. Missed recording Rome, but at least was able to catch it on my SD tivo in the bedroom.
Thanks for your help.

My TiVo has been doing the same thing the last couple days.
My box is almost 4 years old, so I'm guessing its a goner.
I'm about ready to call TiVo to cancel and get a Comcast DVR, I was hoping to wait until the new TiVo update to the Comcast DVR.

I've had that same problem twice over the last couple months .... I keep telling myself "It's a computer, It's a computer ....."

I woke up New Year's Day to a gray screen. No response to the remote or to the front panel buttons. Scared me to death because on my first reboot attempt, the disks didn't start spinning when I plugged it in (I could hear the fan, though). Another attempt at rebooting fixed it.
This has happened two times since, and the only common thing for me is that it happens when I have a recording scheduled in the 1-3:00AM range.
Maybe it's some conflict with a service download?
