Anyone watching. Having the winning PM helping in the boardroom is kind of wierd. How are they supposed to know what happened on the other team. In the past Trump's assistance were able to stop in and review how the teams were doing.

I do like the twist. Gives the PM an insight on the weakness and strenght of the opposing team. Besides George and Caroline were sometime no help to Trump.

Also love the losers "quarters". Think that's hilarious and definitely an incentive to kick butt the next time.

Anyone think Ivanka is a bit disturbing to look at? Also, she loves the word ultimately. The last time she was on Leno she must've said it a hundred times! I've counted at least five times already on this episode.

What happened to the winning PM's strategy of keeping the other team's weakest person? When talking to her team she said her strategy would be to figure out who the weakest person was and then recommend that Trump keep them.

I thought it was a pretty decent strategy, but then she just threw it out the window apparently. Frank was obviously the strongest player on the other team (of the three brought back to the boardroom), but she told Trump he should fire Martin, who was obviously the weakest. Maybe she just read the whole thing wrong.

Does anyone know how long it takes to actually tape the whole series?

Obviously, it does not take 16 or 17 weeks....

Do they do a task every other day ? or something like that ?

Maybe a task 5 days a week with weekends off ?

Living in the tent would suck, and I'm sure they aren't doing it for a week at a time...

Plus, who can get 16 or 17 weeks off from their regular job......
I know I couldn't...

And the PM from the losing team would never shut his mouth....
He should have been fired just for that...

Though this show has been sort of interesting in the past - despite getting progressively getting worse each season - this is the worst! The introduction of the new "gimmicks", in a misguided effort to freshen things up, reduce it to just another dumb reality show. I agree with the OP - what frame of reference does the opposing PM have in order to weigh in on who deserves to get booted! None - they weren't there. And, that she will continue to serve as PM until her team suffers a loss - ridiculous. How are the other members of that team ever going to get a chance to show their weaknesses or strengths if they never get a chance to lead?

The "tent city" thing is just plain stupid. The current losing team has more than just a distinct disadvantage living under absurd conditions, while the other competitors live in luxury. Not exactly equal footing for performing at one's best and IMO it seems contrary to the point of the "competition". [if the producers even *have* a point, beyond generating next-day chatter]

Ivanka... I predict that she will become the butt of jokes everywhere pretty fast.

Overall, a pretty pathetic attempt to breath new life into a show on the decline. Trump and the producers missed the mark with this incarnation of The Apprentice.

I hope the losing team PM gets axed soon. He'll start grating on people's nerves as time goes on.

I guess smart, well-spoken people don't "mesh well" with Trump's organization given what Ivanka said. :p

Tentative SP, but I'll boot it if I start getting a backlog of shows.

poor robin couldn't make the trip to LA I guess? The intercom is cheezy.

Having the losers just over the fence and enabling them to see over is pretty tortuous.

It must be so fun getting ready for boardroom outside. I would come in jeans/tshirt and say it's out people in tent cities dress.

good thing the opposing PM didnt stick by her plan to can the stronger guy. Trump is all about self interest...his...not hers.

I'm pretty sure it's a 3 day turnaround as far as each task.

I was hoping the tents were where evictees went, not losing team. That would have been funny

A few thoughts about this first episode and the new season...

What happened to the winning PM's strategy of keeping the other team's weakest person? When talking to her team she said her strategy would be to figure out who the weakest person was and then recommend that Trump keep them.

I thought it was a pretty decent strategy, but then she just threw it out the window apparently. Maybe she just read the whole thing wrong.
I thought the strategy played out well.

Martin was awful and would have eventually been fired anyway. But it was Frank who lost the task. If the losers keep him as project manager, he'll probably lose the next task for them too which is what the winning team wants. If he's not the PM, he'll be a bigger pain and much harder to handle than Martin.

Franks expression when Trump fired Martin was priceless. "he said, "Martin, you're fired".

I didn't care for Ivanka's questions in the boardroom. Trump started out with a very open question to get someone talking - "Tell me about Franks management". Ivanka jump in blasting Frank with rhetorical type questions - "What were you thinking?" Trump gets them talking. Ivanka makes them want to drop their heads and be quiet.

The whole sleeping inside vs outside is stupid. Did those sleeping inside really have to sleep with the lights on? I'd never be able to fall asleep. I tend to think the show as adding all the sound effects (dogs barking, sprinkler, etc) making the outside groups location appear more dismal than it really was.

Trump pretty much called her on that and said he wanted an opinion if she were in his shoes.

When Heidi first made that suggestion, I thought it was a bad idea. Being in the Boardroom is both a blessing and curse for the PM.

Plus - Even more time with Trump. The ability to really shine and show good instincts and people skills.

Minus - Even more time with Trump. If you screw up in the Boardroom, Trump will remember. I would not be suprised to see a "winning" PM be fired this season, just due to somesaid said or done in the Boardroom. (Of course the preview will call it the "Most Shocking Boardroom EVER!" for the hundredth time. :D

That guy is something else, what a bozo. He kept tripping over himself kissing Trumps ass.

transcript from the next board room:

Trump: "Frank, why are you so stupid looking?"

Frank: "You are a great business man Mr. Trump. I hope to be as good looking as you are."

Trump: "Why would you say that? Everyone knows my wife married me from money."

Frank: "Sorry sir - I am just try to be straight up you know. That is the kind of guy I am. Can I smell your sock please Mr. Trump?"

Ivanka: "He doesn't like that. He does like it when you whisper in his ear though"

I noticed that too. Besides all the new "wrinkles", I felt the task was one of the better tasks. Similar to the Lemonade stand of S1, it was a very basic task of selling and marketing and harkens back to a first job a pre-teen might have.

I also like that each team had a different approach to selling, volume vs. upselling.

For an OK episode, it was a good task.

Strength/weakness aside, Frank was the most distruptive of the two, and will now have a chip on his shoulder after the rest of the team overwhelmingly suggested he go. Impossible to know what the winning PM was thinking at the time, but I think her team came out ahead with Frank staying.

I kept thinking that Trump was going to fire both of them. He really seemed like he wasn't sure what to do... He paused for a couple of seconds thinking, and i thought Frank was going to shot himself in the foot by keep talking, perhaps that was was Trump wanted to happen. He was waiting for Frank to say something stupid so he would have a good reason to fire him.

Frank is going to be annoying to watch, he is really going to piss off the other PM's.

Except for being oddly feminine... he is totally what I would expect from the Senior Assistant City Attorney of Atlanta. - Arrogant and lazy.
His boss (Paul Howard) is constantly on the national news for dropping the ball and even being charged with assualting a police offer. He is big on using the phrase "do you know who I am"

This was at the very beginning when they were introducing themselves. After the Olympian introduced herself, Trump called her over for a hug. The Martin introduced himself, then said to Trump, "I'll give you a hug if you let me go to the restroom."

When Trump says you're loud, that's saying something! :p Is Trump hard of hearing? (reference to Frank, if you were wondering)

Listening to Trump say "I love L.A." was painful. His whole intro looked like an SNL skit. As for the contestants this year, it appears they avoided the obvious "Why in the world is he/she even picked to be on the show?" Martin was close, but not nearly as annoying as past flubs.

My personal favorite so far is James. As long as he is able to control his excitedness, I think he can go far in the game. Trump seems smitten with the Olympic Hockey player.

I don't like that George isn't there. Trump only having his daughter to advise him doesn't seem like enough input (I don't count the other PM as valid advice).

Did anyone else see the guy on the winning team who seemed disappointed that the PM wouldn't change? He looked like someone that might be willing to sabotage the team just to try and get the PM job.

What a bunch of whiners Frank's team is. OK, they have to sleep in a tent, but the weather is mild, and they have tons of amenities: sinks and showers, patio furniture, a covered eating area, paper plates and silverware, and even racks for hanging up their clothing. Presumably there are port-a-potties and trash cans and free food, too. Honestly, that is barely camping at all. I mean, sure, there's no pool or anything, but sheesh! It's not like they are really roughing it.

Heidi sure talked a lot in the boardroom. And is it me or is she a Sandra Bullock look-alike?

I could not stand Frank!!!! I hope his team looses again next week so Frank can get fired and get off my TV. I found it very disrespectful for him to be in Trumps show but he wouldn't shut his pie hole. Just kept talking over Trump. Trump can do it to other people, he's the guy in-charge, but I have no doubt had I been in Trumps shoes I would have told frank he was fired right in the middle of one of his yelling to defend himself moments.

Martin wasn't much better honestly.... seemed very lazy to me.

I do like that the opposing teams PM gets to sit in the board room, nice way to get info to help your own team.

I also like that the PM doesn't change. I realize it doesn't give others a chance, but in the beginning it has allowed what seemed like the natural leaders to take charge.

The boardrooms are so piece together - it is very difficult to piece together what happened when. Judging by the way Heidi had sort of a glazed look and half smile (when she added color to Trump's rant) she was asked to comment each time by the producer or something. I would guess that she'd want to participate as little as possible as far as making comments toward the other team - just so she didn't make any other enemies.

Sometimes the boardroom scenes are particularly awkardly woven together. Like last night there was obviously some kind of commentary by Martin towards Frank to the effect of 'Trump knows that your team doesn't respect you etc...' but they cut it out and put together "you're fired" with something that happened way afterward.

So you see Frank with a goofy smile, staring at Martin right afterward.

Did anyone else get an abrupt cut to/from a commercial in the midst of the scene where the project managers were choosing up their teams? I'm wondering if my local channel messed up or if it was national.Hearing nothing, I'm assuming it was a local problem.

not sure I like the winning Team Leader staying on the job - what happens if they have a run of winning 4 or 5 times in a row?

Then the Team Leader must be pretty good. :D

Then the Team Leader must be pretty good. :D... and Trump is looking for the best. It would be even more impressive given that the other team would really be out for blood by that time (living in the tents and getting beaten every week).

I agree with the OP - what frame of reference does the opposing PM have in order to weigh in on who deserves to get booted! None - they weren't there.

Neither is Trump, and he's the one doing the firing. I disagree with your point because the opposing PM will have actual experience with the task in question, and from a team that (ostensibly) did it better. If someone on the chopping block complains that something was hard, he can just ask the opposing PM if he/she also thought such and such was difficult. It's better than having someone just go to the site for a few minutes to get a gist of what's going on.

I think it mirrors real life more than previous shows, and teaches them a lesson they won't soon forget. Successful people get the things they want, unsucccessful people don't. Do you know anyone (besides Paris Hilton and those like her) that can continually fail and everything they attempt yet go home to be in the lap of luxury?

There's a saying in Africa: He who wears a tablecloth for a shirt will be fired by he who has a bad haircut.

ROFL

What was with those African sayings? I guess he missed:

One who wears a zoot suit cannot quote African sayings.

I literally just laughed out loud. :D

+1. I just imagine Jack Sparrow saying that with a completely straight face.

Are they going be replaying the show on CNBC like they have been in previous seasons? I checked the sched and couldn't find anything. With 24 starting up I am going to have to bump the Apprentice from my record list.

The apprentice is on Sunday, 24 will be on mondays. It's only on this sunday for the opening.
