Hi

I ordered an S3 from Dell on 12/20/06. After many phone calls to Dell I finally got mine shipped and will (fingers crossed) get it on 1/9/07. It better arrive soon, cause I already scheduled a cable card install... :)

Since Dell doesn't offer extended warranty on Tivos, I want to buy one from http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4076761. The page says that I have 30 days to buy it after I purchase the S3. Also their terms and conditions state that I need to have 90 days left on my original manufacturer parts and labor warranty. OTOH Tivo's warranty is also 90 days from the date of purchase.

What I don't understand is what is considered the date of purchase - the order date or the delivery date? If it is the order date, that's 20 days ago, so I have 70 days left on my original warranty and won't qualify for the extended warranty.

Any thoughts? Anybody has experience with Warrantech/Repair Master?

Thanks
Ivo

I have the Repair Master and even though J&R states that you have 30 days, the Warrantech document you get with the registration number states 10 days. The TC Store also sells the same warranty. I think the manufacturer's warranty starts when you get the product, at least that's the logical conclusion, but of course I'm not the final word so I would call TiVo and ask.

I think the 10 days is from the time you purchase the warranty till the time you call them to register it. I might be wrong.

The TC warranty is for items up to $1000, since they sell S3 for $800. I got mine for less than $750, which qualifies for the less-expensive warranty from J&R.

I looked at the Warrantech document and right on it "MUST REGISTER WITHIN 10 DAYS OF PURCHASE". What is not clear if they mean within 10 days of the purchase of the product or the warranty. I always assumed it meant purchase with 10 days of purchasing the product. Give them a call and ask 877-263-7403.

I'm pretty sure it's 10 days of purchase of the warrantee.

The Warrantech Warranty I got for my TV said the same thing. I didn't register it until 9 months after the purchase. They told me they put that 10 days on it to get people to register it quicker and not forget about it. They told me as long as I registered the warrantech warranty before the manufacturers warranty ran out I was fine.
But my warranty was also purchased at the time of my TV purchase. I just messed around and forgot to actually registe the warranty. I'm actually thinking about canceling the extended warranty I got from BB. I figure in a few years the S3 will be pretty cheap like the HR10-250 models became.
