View Full Version : Daily call - number not answered!

Hi everyone. It's been a while since I posted but that's because I've had 4 years of trouble free TiVo-ing (with a lifetime sub :D ).

I noted a week ago that my guide data was running out and its now down to 6 days. The daily call has been failing. Making a test call works fine but when I force a daily call it ends up with 'number not answered'. I've been on hold waiting to get through to the TiVo helpline for 30 minutes so I'm about to give up! Any help please?!!!

By the way, the TiVo is standard apart from a drive upgrade completed around 3 years ago.

A few people have encountered this problem lately, which seems to be some kind of weird database corruption.

Re-running Guided Setup has fixed the problem for other people here who have reported this issue. Although before doing that do a couple of reboots. First a reboot where you power off for a couple of minutes after selecting System Reset and at the Powering Up screen and then another reboot from the menus where you let the Tivo boot up all the way without powering off.

Also do you have a another handset on the line you can pick up to see if Tivo is actually dialling a number at all and whether or not it is being answered? I suspect Tivo isn't actually calling the number, even though it claims to be doing so.

Thanks Pete77. It turns out that the TiVo was unable to dial out properly because my wireless router, installed around the same time the TiVo calls stopped :o, was blocking the calls. I now have guide date to 28/1 :) . All I need to do is unplug the line jack to the router one or two times a week overnight. This is an easy access, 3 second, no hassle job.

I now look forward to another 4 years plus of hassle free excellence. :D

I will wager a small sum that you don't have a microfilter on the Tivo phone socket.

You really ought to get a Cachecard for your Tivo so you can direct your daily call through the router and not over the phone line and also enjoy the many other enhancements that come with controlling your Tivo via your PC and over the internet using Tivoweb.

Smarty pants! Hard wired directly into the master socket. Never had a problem with ADSL broadband for the last 2 years though. Well done and here it is...

I checked my phone setup today, and discovered that yesterday's call didn't fail, but that the last call attempt (and sucessful) was nearly 48 hours ago?

Does everyone else's TiVo now call every two days, or is it just a glitch in mine?
