I am interested in watching all the Japanese detective/crime/police movies from the 1950s and 1960s that show up on cable.

An obscure request, right? Did you know it's virtually impossible to submit that request to netflix? I never got it to work. Trust me the movies I've seen so far were all great, gritty dramas ala film noir.

I set up my new tivo yesterday, S2, and looked through genres, etc. I noticed the odd movie genre "French" in the Tivo guide last night. I didn't notice Japanese.

I did a search on 1966 and movies, but didn't get any films back yet there were some.

How would one write this kind of query in a wish list with any accuracy or does it not work with the software?

thanks,

Don

The year isn't searchable, which is a shame.

I used to like searching for "Oscar for", which would return films that have won Academy Awards, but somewhere along the way they stripped that from the searchable info. :(

I have keyword wishlists for "2006 AND Movies" and they work fine. I don't think you can really narrow it down from there though - I'd try just setting up a wishlist with the years you want and see how many you get. You might also try 196* and 197* as keywords, see if they get you the whole decade.

ok yeah, well as someone who uses databases all day this IS frustrating, but also it was my experience.

thanks

The year isn't searchable, which is a shame.
They are for movies, but not for episodes.

(For whatever reason for movies the year is stored in the guide data in a Movie Year field which is searched by keyword wishlists, while for episodes the year is part of the Original Air Date field which is not searched by keyword wishlists)
