I bought a Series 3 TiVo in December to use for the Lifetime Transfer deal. I have 2 TiVos with Lifetime. A series 240 unit upgraded with a 160GB drive and a DRT400 DVD burner 40GB Humax unit. (I have been trying to buy a series 1 TiVo off of eBay for a while to use for the transfer, but these have been selling for $230+).

So, I have been thinking of transferring the Lifetime from the Humax unit to the S3 and eBaying the 240 unit. I'm thinking that I can use the Humax as a DVD player/burner for the year and then eBay it.

Is this the most cost-effective thing to do, or would I be better off using the S2 Lifetime for the transfer and eBaying the Humax?

I'd x-fer from the Humax since even without service it's usable in a limited fashon. The 240 is a doorstop after the year is up.

So is the Humax - can't do anything without a sub.

I thought the DVD units had a 'Tivo Basic' type service you could use if they aren't activated.

If I'm wrong about that, then I'm sorry for spreading misinformation.

I'd buy a second Series3 and transfer both. :)

Not the Humax units.

Toshiba and Pioneer only.

Humax TiVos are therefore evil and must be destroyed. :p
