The tech installed the 2 cablecards. One looks like it started to download it's info, but hasn't made any progress in about an hour. Only a few channels are working.

The one in slot 2 gave an error, but a second one worked. The second one looks like it isn't downloading at all though now.

Any ideas how long the process should take?

Did they install both at the same time? It shouldn't take an hour to do the DL. My setup of CCs with no pre-setup on the Tivo took about 45 minutes in total.

Any ideas how long the process should take? For me, it only took a few minutes to download the data. I had a couple cards that never worked, but any that eventually worked started doing so within minutes.

He put one in and initialized and activated it and then did the same as the other.

The status screen for cable card 1 still says "Wait To Start" and segments left to download as 0. Some channels are working on cable card #1.

The status screen for cable card 2 said "Waiting To Start to download" and sat there for a while then an error popped up and now it says "Wait To Start" and the same few channels are available as from CC#1. The guy seems to think this one did a firmware update because the firmware he said the firmware was older, but I never saw a message about firmware updating.

Right now I can't tell what it's doing since there doesn't seem to be any status feedback. Is there supposed to be?

There's a particular 'error' that is expected and welcomed ... it signals the start of download or some such.

In theory, with a good install, everything should work within minutes. Of course, some head-ends don't send signals down (or listen for devices expecting signals) regularly, and this only happens every few hours. Most people's setups have worked after a few hours or overnight wait.

Well right now I can pick up the same channels on both cards, but there doesn't seem to be any pattern as to what channels work and which doesn't. About half work and half don't.

Like I said there's no status as to what is happening.

Anyone know what an "error code 161-4" means?

What cable company is this?

Comcast.

They hit the cards a few more times and now they look like they are working fine. :D
Must of been some kind of muck up.

I'm not sure what it means, but I believe that is the "good" error. Got that on all 4 of my cablecards during install, and I believe everyone who is successful gets that error, but I'm not positive.
