i currently have 2 tivos. one in the living room and one in my bedroom. my son watches TV (he's 3) on the one in the living room and we record stuff for him every so often. we like the rewind feature for him, cause we can turn the tv off, and keep on a certain channel, then rewind so he can watch all of a show at 11:30 when the show started at 11.

ok, i know you all know the features of the tivo, but i wanted to show how i use the tivo before i ask my question. my question is this, if i got the DT tivo and replaced the tivo in the BEDROOM (not the TV my son watches) and activated it. but deactivated the one in the LIVING ROOM, could i still use it to rewind? what about if i record something on the DT, could i use my wireless network i have setup (currently works fine with my 2 tivos) and transfer a show over to the living room so my son could watch it?

did i explain this enough? does this make sense?

Yes -- on a deactivated TiVo you can pause, rewind, etc. a program that is being broadcast at that time. You cannot record it or any other program for viewing later. [There is an exception if your DVR is one of the models from Toshiba or Pioneer which have a limited TiVo Basic feature set].

No -- You can transfer programs to or from a TiVo that does not have a currently active subscription to TiVo Service.

Without a subscription all a Series 2 TiVo will do is the trickplay. Pause, rewind, live TV. You WILL get nag screens every time you turn on the box telling you that you haven't paid them. Also all other features including Multi-Room viewing will be disabled. On the plus side, if you commit to 3 years of service you can get a second subscription for 6.95/month, but you have to buy the TiVo. If you already own a TiVo that isn't on a bundle deal it can be the one that goes to 6.95 if you want to get a new bundled unit.

Also, you can only pause a show for 30 minutes, afterwards the buffer runs out and you start losing your show.

yeah i know you can only pause for 30 mins. i just meant i'd keep the channel on, and let it run. i figured the multi-room stuff would be disabled, i figured i'd ask :)
