I have a Directv H20 HD receiver and a non-HD Tivo (not sure of the model - at least 2 years old). I can't get the HD signal if I run the H20 receiver into the Tivo and then into the TV as my only connection possibilities are S-video or component (red/white/yellow). So what I did was run the H20 to the TV over the Composite connection and then run the H20 to the Tivo and the Tivo to a separate video input on the TV via the component hookups. With this method I can get the HD signal and still have the Tivo hooked up.
The problem (or inconvenience) is that I have to changed the input source for the TV when i want to watch HD. This also means my tivo isn't useable when I'm on this input. I'm also worried about leaving things in the wrong "state" at some point (i.e. on the wrong input source) and tivo not being able to automatically tape what it should. However.. I have been watching it and it changes the channels as it should and starts recording so I'm hoping that is ok.
Is this my only option with a non-HD tivo? I'm looking to have my cake and eat it to by being able to get the HD signal with the Tivo hooked up an being able to stay on one input source... I just don't think it could happen.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
