I'm in Philadelphia where there's free wifi. I have no phone line, and my only internet connection is the free Philly network.
I'm wondering if anyone gets there programming info from a free wifi connection. Any help would be greatly apprecited.
Thanks,
Brian

If you can get onto the internet, i don't see why not, give it a shot.
or do you NOT have one and want to find out before you get one?

The TiVo cannot authenticate, so if the free provider requires you to log on it's not going to work. Also many "free" wifi services require you to launch your web browser before you can connect. This too would be a stumbling block. You *might* be able to get it working in these two cases by setting up a router of some sort that authenticates for you, or use a PC with ICS running.

If you can't do it by setting up some type of wireless bridge, what you can do is setup a wireless adapter on your PC. This would require changing the MAK of the adapter on your PC to the TiVo branded adapter MAK (there are some hacks for this). Then you can register the adapter through your browser. Once you do that. You can plug your TiVo adapter in and it should work.

Thanks for the replies.
I ordered a network adaptor today. I'll find out if this is gonna work or not in a couple of days.
I've actually spoken with a "level 2" tivo tech guy, and he said he's not sure if it will work or not. I thought maybe someone on here already tried to do it.
It does make sense , though, that if it has to connect, then it just can't do it.
Thanks again.
