Yeah, it seems to be a bug that I have tested pretty well and I am pretty sure about. If your filename has special characters in it, like Spanish characters etc then TiVo will not play that file and it will stop until you channel up or down to a song with no special characters. VERY ANNOYING.

I'd like to file it with TiVo support. Spent 30 minutes on hold but all I did was get a case # and waited to be transferred to "networking technical support" (not sure why)....

Maybe I'll try again if I can find some time when I can have the phone waiting on hold music while I am working.

Have you tried using Galleon instead of TiVo Desktop? I'm pretty sure this is a TiVo Desktop problem, and not a problem with the TiVo itself, so Galleon may fix it.

This has been a known problem for some time (I found this thread (http://archive2.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=270785&highlight=special+character) from November 2005). I'm not sure why this hasn't been fixed in the later versions of TiVo Desktop (though honestly, I haven't tried testing this under 2.3).

I can confirm that Galleon (http://www.galleon.tv) handles special characters just fine.
