I have a Zippered HDVR2 that has worked well for several years. In the last few days, in better than 50% of attempts to change channels either by directly entering the channel, selecting via guide, or just chan up/down, two quick screeches come from the speakers on the TV and the unit freezes requiring a reboot to recover. I have experienced slow changes before, usually taking no more than 15 seconds, but this is new.

Does this sound like a failing hard drive, or possibly some other hardware issue? I have an unused R10 laying around. Could I just drop its drive into the unit, or would it need to be re-imaged?

Thanks.

I had the same screeching problem with one of my HDVR2's...at first they were short screeches, but as it got worse, I noticed they coincided with picture freezing. I replaced the hard drive, and it's working fine, now.
You can't use the hard drive from your R10 without putting an HDVR2 image on it first.

The screeching sound you hear is the sound of OU losing 3 straight BCS bowl appearances! :)

JGL - thanks for the info. I think I will bite the bullet and get a new hard drive for it. As cheap as storage is, it makes sense rather than parting out the R10.

DKerr...hmm, I don't think so. This screeching started on Saturday. OU lost on Monday and caused more of a groan or wailing sound. Thanks anyway.
