I've been using TiVo desktop for several years with no real problems.
Recently my subscription to Norton Antivirus expired, and I decided to try CA Security Suite which I can get free through Mediacom cable.
After installation and the initial scan I noticed that my computer CPU usage went from 7 or 8 % up to near 100% and disk activity was almost constant. Pulling the ethernet connection reduced the activity to normal.
Strangely if I logged off my Windows XP desktop and on to another user's desktop everything was normal.
I thought my computer had been hijacked by a trojan, but was unable to find anything. Pausing ( Snooze ) the CA Antivirus stopped the activity. Pausing Tivo Server also would stop the activity.
Un-installing TiVo Desktop completely solved the problem.
I'm sure that un-installing CA Antivirus would also fix the problem
My conclusion is that CA Antivirus has a bug that just doesn't like TiVo desktop. They had a problem in September where they though LSASS, a component of Windows was a virus. This may be related.
If anyone knows a solution other than un-installing one or both, please let me know
