I've been paging through the threads, and have seem quite a few people ask this question (about a periodic connection listed on the system information screen), but I've yet to see an answer about what is it, and why so many people, like myself, never seem to have had a successful connection to it.
What is the VCM connection? And how do I make it successfully connect?

VCM is a tool invented by Tivo to spark discussion in the forums. No one knows what it really means and there have been speculations that it has to do with something with video downloading, IIRC.

Personally, I suspect it has something to do with KFC and the Colonel's secret recipe. :p

Classicsat told me that VCM has something to do with online scheduling.
But he could have been speculating as well.

Only speculation but I'm betting on "Video Content Manager". I believe this to be the connection to see if you have any TiVoCast downloads available to download. Since TiVoOps manager says your requested downloads should happen within 6 hours and the VCM connects are 6 hours apart, this is where my money goes.

My next scheduled VCM Connection is 1 hr and 10 min from the last successful connection.

I thought TiVoCasts would start a download within 15 minutes?
