I am trying to puchase a Tivo box, but when I look at sites such as BestBuy or Circuit City, they often say that the boxes will not work for dual recording two satelitte feeds. DirecTV says any Tivo box except the Stand Alone will work. Can someone tell me the truth of this matter.

The new Dual Tuner standalone Tivos can not use two satellite receivers. Their "dual tuner" feature only works with Cable TV systems. Dual Tuner standalone Tivos can use one satellite receiver, controlled via IR Remote repeater, along with one Cable TV coax input, if you have Cable TV.
Your best bet is a true dual tuner DirecTV DVR. You can still find the older DirecTV/Tivo dual tuner DVRs on eBay, or check out the newer non-Tivo DirecTV dual tuner DVRs, such as the R15 or HR20 DVRs.

There wouldn't be a list of models that were true dual tuners out there for DTV? I have one of the old Phillips dual tuners and it's making a lot of noise...Might be the fan but I've cleaned it many times. Possibly might buy a new fan for it and see if that does the trick. I'd also like to upgrade my HDD in that badboy. Hrmmm.....gotta start looking around here and see what I can do.

Yes, all DirecTV/Tivo DVRs have two tuners, as do the new non-Tivo DirecTV DVRs (R15 and HR20).

Since DTivo boxes have not been made for about a year, read

Here is a list of all Series 2 DTivos (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=4354807&&#post4354807) (i.e. they have dual tuners and USB ports). The only one not listed is the R10 (the last one produced for DirecTV) and some people call it a "Series 2.5" since it has a different hardware design compared to the other S2 boxes.
All of the S2 boxes are pretty much the same hardware-wise... the only difference is the faceplace (varried by manufacturer) and the size of the stock hard drive.
Any DTivo can have its recording capacity increased by using commodity hard drives; any of the S2 units (except the R10) can be enhanced with network features (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=265929).
