I'm running a DP 1.8 PPC G5- not as fast as the new ones, but not a slouch, either. And I was noticing a performance hit while doing some very heavy graphics work.
So, I had a look at Activity Monitor, and discovered that TivoDesktop is consistently taking between 18-24% of the CPU. It's also using 550 MB of real memory. This isn't a problem, really, though less would be better but the machine has 3.5GB of ram.
Doesn't this CPU usage seem excessive? True, I have quite a few tracks [about 25k], and lots of playlists [about 1200]; but I noticed this behavior even when I had much less music. It seems obvious that, at some point, the app would need some horsepower to parse all the data [this is a non-programmer using some technical words that make sense but might be totally wrong], but wouldn't this happen once? and then the CPU usage would drop?
This CPU usage is only when music is being played on one of the networked TV sets. Otherwise, it drops to <3%.
What are other people experiencing? It's so high that I have to turn it off unless I specifically need it.
