Questions:
*What DirectTV channel numbers map to each transponder? For example, does transponder 3 have channels 205-320?
*I have two coax run from a single SAT-T60 to a single dual LNB on my only installed round dish. Shouldn't one cable have only odd, and the other only even transponder signals? If so, when I do a signal check shouldn't it show (for example) in 1 always 0 for odds, and in 2 always 0 for evens?

Thanks for your help.

Background (if interested)

We moved a few miles (latitude about 95 degrees for both old and new) a little more than a year ago. At the old house I had my dish on a tripod on the ground--yes on the ground--it works great that way if trees are not there.

The new house already had a dish, so I put my old dish and LNB that I brought with me in storage. it already had two cables, but one ran to a bedroom with the other running through a splitter into a terrestrial local antenna in the attic. I re-routed and hooked them both up to my box. I never had much of a high signal, but good enough.

Starting about a week ago, I occasionally get a searching for signal on input 2. It goes away if I change to the right channel (thus my question above about wanting to know the mappings), but it really started becoming annoying, so we want to fix it.

The signal levels were generally better on 1 than 2, but not all. I swapped the cable at the box, and the signal levels seemed to reverse. So, the delta is with the cables (and the too many connectors I am running them through), or the LNB.

I have written down all the levels for all transponders for both inputs. Other than zeros, the values seem to range from 38 to 79, so you can see none of them are really good. At the old house I got 80s and 90s all the time. These levels are also probably the good weather levels.

The antenna is on the roof--the house faces south so not really possible to put it back on the ground for appearance reasons--and the dish is mounted at the bottom back pointing over the peak. It seems to have a clear shot. The wind does flesh the mounting staff a little.

I should be able to fix it by a combination of re-pointing the dish, verifying connections, getting rid of any unnecessary connectors, and possibly using my old LNB.

See this FAQ for how this stuff works.

From this FAQ, you'll see that either coax can have either polarity.

Here's a transponder map for you.

The 101 satellite has 6 spot beams, some of which will be zero or low in signal strength. There should be one that is very high. These spot beams are 4, 12, 18,20, 26, and 28.

I had already read the FAQ--I suppose I should re-read.

The transponder table should be a big help.
