Many people have separate DVD recorders that they use with their DTivos. As with anything else, price is roughly equal to quality: If you get a $69 Burn-o-matic from Cheapo-Mart you may not like the results.

There is no way (with a DVD recorder) to transfer the show any faster than normal "play' mode since that is basically what you are doing with the DTivo so that the DVD recorder can capture it. Most of my burns like that I start as I leave home for a while or before I go to bed at night.

I have a DVD recorder (Panasonic DMR-E80) from a few years ago and I think it does a great job; it also has a hard drive inside (just like a DVR) so if I want to edit commercials out of something I have a way to do that.

You will have to decide what media you want to use, but many of the newer ones will burn DVD-R or DVD+R media (yes, they are different). Some new ones will also burn the "RW" flavor media, so look for that if erase and re-use of a disc is important to you.

I just use the "save to VCR" function in the DTivo and then press "record" on the DVD recorder. You hook one up just like you would a VCR - audio and video out from the DTivo to the audio and video inputs on the DVD recorder.

I don't know of any that do the 5.1 audio, but they may be out there.

See some of my DVD recorder comments here (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=3942513&&#post3942513).

so recorded movies from like starz, hbo etc,you cannot burn from harddrive cause of encryption issues..

Well, strictly speaking you are "burning" from the hard drive since you have to play the show. Unless you hack your TiVo to allow extraction, realtime playback is your only option. BTW, the R10 requires a ROM chip replacement in order to do the hack.

You may not COPY the files to any other device (computer or standalone burner or whatever) but you may PLAY the file and send that output signal to any device you want... TV, computer via specialty input card, or a DVD burner
