View Full Version : Split a signal to another TV?

I've searched for this and not found just what I'm looking for.

I'm putting a TV on my deck. I don't want to put another TIVO outside. The TIVO in my library is literally going to be only 10 feet or so through a glass door (with another TV).

What I want to do is split the signal that comes back out of the TIVO, running it back into the wall and out to through the attic to the TV on the deck that will be hanging up out of the weather. I've tried taking the remote out on the deck and I can change channels just fine. Lots of glass!!!

Is this possible? If so what kind of splitter do I need? Anything else that I should worry about?

If you use the composite outputs (red/white/yellow) of the TiVo on your inside TV, then just use the RF output for the patio TV.

If your inside TV only has RF, then a regular RF splitter will work just fine.

Right now I'm only using the RF. I'm hoping to upgrade to an HD unit soon. Will the new ones power two sets of outputs at once? I have a 10-250 that I could put there and put the newer one where the 250 is now. Will that change anything?

But, does the inside TV have composite inputs?

The HR10 can't output SD & HD at the same. The HR20 can.

If you want to put the HR10 outside, you'll need two cables if you plan to use both tuners.

What is the difference between the 20 and the 10? The TV that I'm putting inside isn't even out of the box yet so I don't know, but I bet it does. I was going to use the DVI cable with it.

Thanks for your help btw.

The HR10 is the TiVo software based DVR, the HR20 is also an HD DVR but based on DirecTV's homegrown software. As I indicated above the HR10 can't output SD and HD at the same time. Once you know what inputs the TV has then report it.
Thr HR10 doesn't have an RF output. The HR10 probably doesn't either.

Talk about the HR20 can be found here.
