Hi,
I'm trying to save TIVO shows to my 300gig network drive and keep getting errors saying "folder location has changed, moved or doesn't exhist".
I created the folder and can easily open it with my Laptop. TIVO Desktop keeps trying to force a change to a folder created on my laptop.
Is this a bug in Desktop 2.3 or a digital rights issue ?
Any help is sincerely appreceated...
Regards,
Terry

The easiest way to make this work would be to map the network share to a local drive letter. Then TiVo Desktop would not be able to tell the difference between it and a real drive on your loacal system. Using the Windows \\ComputerName\Share convetion has all sorts of trouble in lots of applications.

Thanks Dan...
Here's what Mark had to say about it at TIVO:
Only NAS units with SAMBA set up in a very specific way will work properly with TiVo Desktop. TD wants to be able to set file attributes in the "My TiVo Recordings" directory and if the version of SAMBA on your NAS doesn't support all the windows attributes (most don't) then you are out of luck unless you can hack your NAS. There are details on doing that over at TCF.
Mark
Could you please provide a link to the Windows \\ComputerName\Share method you mentioned ? I really want to set this up asap...
Thanks a bunch...

The Windows \\ComputerName\Share method is the one I said probably would not work. What you want to do is go to My Network Places and click on View Workgroup Computers. Double click on your network drive, then right click the share and pick Map Network Drive. After that's setup you'll have a new Z: drive on your PC. Now go into TiVo Desktop and point it at the Z: drive as your recordings directory.
As for the attributes thing... The only thing TiVo does is add a desktop.ini file to the folder with it's attributes set to read only and hidden. This file is not necessary and only serves to change the folder icon when viewing it via Windows Explorer. If that fails for some reason then it should still continue to work just fine.

Hi Dan,
Your suggestion is the original way I had selected to save using TIVO Desktop 2.3a. It doesn't work. TVIO DT hates saving to my network drive. Everytime it is selected the path requestor pops up saying Folder has been moved or deleted...
Someone mentioned SAMBA setting on my network drive but that setup is not available.
Any other thoughts anyone ?
Terry
