Guided setup

Just got a series 1 sony SVR 2000, read a lot of info on this site. I want to use this as a vcr. Many postings suggested using guided setup to do its thing.

Well I allowed it to call in, it downloads for a minute or so, goes through the setup procedure and then after asking for the Phone # for a local TiVo area, I suggest the 1 800 # it then turns itself off, then back on again for the usual start-up screen " just a few Seconds" I have tried this at least 6 times and it always reboots after asking for the Phone # any suggestions..........

TiVo will not allow use of the 800 number for the second (or regular) call. You must pick one of the local numbers. It is also possible your unit is not working correctly.

Thanks for replying. I have tried to call in using several other #'s all with the same result. I used the "test call" funtion and it said test passed. Do you think I have a bad HD, this is to my knowledge a virgin machine. It sat on the shelf of an electronics parts store for a number of years. Any other suggestions?
