TCO,

I have been on the fence about getting a S3 for a while now. Specifically for the price hit both on lifetime transfer and the price of the box. After calling Cox (we are located in Phoenix) found out that we do NOT have multi-stream cards and will likely not be getting them EVER. And the OD (On-Demand) service will be coming in 1Q 2007. So, my question appears to be is it worth it to move to an S3 because (according to Cox) I am required to have one of their boxes for the OD service and am unable to use OD with the cable cards. Is there anyone out there in the TCO-Forums that has some experience to share or recommendations...

Thank you.

It's all up to you!

Do you want On-Demand? They are right with the cablecards you will lose OnDemand services. I don't think this is a big deal though, but your thoughts might differ. I think the tivo interface is much more important to me then on-demand. I couldn't stand the SAHD8300 box I was using before to get HD content.

For an additional $5-10 per month, you can rent a cable box to support your on-demand needs. It also gives you more tuners for those occasions when 2 is just not enough!

Just to be clear, multistream cards have nothing to do with OnDemand or PPV.
Multistream just means dual-tuner with one card.
CableCard2.0 cards are two-directional, which enables OnDemand and PPV , but they also are supposed to be multistream... hence some confusion.

S3 should be able to use multistream (dual-tuner) when come out later, but NOT CC2.0 two-way (hardware spec change.)

To get OD, rent another box is really only way...
for PPV, you can sometimes call in by phone to order.

After you've set up a few season passes, isn't your Tivo *essentially* on demand?

Ok, I'm exaggerating.. but unless you can actually get all primetime shows on On Demand, I really don't see why it's such a big deal.

Not really much of an exaggeration at all, really. I do hear that there are a handful of shows that are "On-Demand" only, but if I've lived this long without them...

Not to mention, I don't even have time to watch everything that I record now, so why would I want any more?
