Tivo w/ no phone line?

I just received a new tivo for xmas, but I have no land line in my house. I just use my cell phone. Can I use the tivo service? Does tivo work without the subscription? Is it worth it? I have internet (via cable), can it be run solely over the internet? The box seems to indicate that it needs a landline at least once. Is this the case? It is a Series2 rev.4 D 80 hour. Vender Part is R54080.

You have to have the Tivo service to get any use out of the box. You may be able to get a USB network (wired or wireless) adapter and complete guided setup that way.

If it is new it may or may not have V7 or above software, if it does you can set it up using the Internet or take it to a friends home for the setup then connect it at your home to the Internet.
