Any way to make this or any other video quality a default? It's a pain to constantly choose "Keep Until I Delete" for programs I want to keep a while.

TiVo probably won't allow that as default since many folks unwittingly would use it, then start losing programs when the unit senses it will become full with saved recordings and those on the to do list.

You can select "Keep until I delete" when you originally set up a Season Pass. So at least all those shows will be kept until you delete them. What Bierboy said makes sense in that people with your typical TiVo would start to run out of space if they made that an option.

My advice would be to add another or larger hard drive to your TiVo so you have so much recording space that it would be unlikely you would have shows deleted before you watched them. Disk space is cheap.

Some years ago I bought a 140HR Series2 (which I think was a 120GB hard drive) and then I bought another 120GB from Weaknees and added it so in the end I had around 150 hours of recording time in the HIGH Quality recording setting. That gave me so much space that I have had entire seasons of many shows and I got so far behind in my watching that I could never catch up. :-)

Right, George! I forgot about setting the default on a Season Pass. That's one reason I upgraded my S3 to the WeaKnees 750GB HD...now I can cram 97 hours of HD or over 900 hours of SD recorded material onto it. The SD quality on the S3 is so much better than the S2, I'm sure I will keep lots of SD stuff on there that I wouldn't normally. And, of course, I'll be saving a lot of HD material, too.
