I spent all night watching my S3 reboot and called tech support this morning. My HD TIVO is now working again and here's what I did:
1. Unplug TIVO, remove both cable cards
2. Replug TIVO and repeat guided setup (without cards)
3. Put in Card 1 and let it acquire channels for an hour
4. Put in Card 2 and let it acquire channels for an hour
5. Repeat guided setup
After that I checked my system settings and noticed that TIVO service finally was switched over to "lifetime" via my VIP transfer from my old S2. However, I also noticed that the name of my old S2 was showing as my HD Tivo's name. I got on Tivo's site to rename it correctly, and noticed that when TIVO transferred my lifetime service, they did not switch the TIVOs correctly and my S3 was optioned as allowing transfers between TIVOs, while my S2 was showing that option was not available.
So I called TIVO back and got the assignments straightened out. It is possible that the S3 being temporarily set to allow transfers to/from other TIVOs caused it to continuously reboot.
Or it is possible that the other procedure worked of removing and reinserting cable cards.
I have my TIVO connected to a Sony Bravia via HDMI cable. My Sony has a cable card slot too and I just rotate the cards through the TV when I think there is something wrong with them.
So far, I've not had to get new cable cards installed.
Good luck to all with this wacky problem. Started this new thread because the other was veering off topic.
Happy holidays.
